Discrimination is treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit. This includes treatment of an individual or group based on their actual or perceived membership in a certain group or social category, "in a way that is worse than the way people are usually treated". It involves the group's initial reaction or interaction, influencing the individual's actual behavior towards the group or the group leader, restricting members of one group from opportunities or privileges that are available to another group, leading to the exclusion of the individual or entities based on logical or irrational decision making.
My English teacher was kind enough to bring us to the library to watch a movie named Freedoms Writers,In this particular movie, discrimination has been best portrayed by the society that it will soon changes the students' lives. Many of them watched helplessly as their loved one slowly being murdered by gang members.Their ultimate goal in life is to strive to survive. Surviving surpass the age of eighteen is indeed commendable.
The most perceptible injustice that I felt in this movie was the scene where the department chair, Margaret Campbell refuses to allow Erin Gruwell, the fresh new teacher, to teach her students with . She is encouraged to teach them about fundamental of discipline to just buy some time. The school has already acknowledged this particular class of students to be lost cases but Erin refused to think s o and goes beyond her obligations as a teacher to get them the education they deserved .Slowly, the racial barriers begins to ease because of her outstanding efforts to get the students to express themselves to her.. The students successfully graduated high school under her watchful eye, which proves that everyone is given an opportunity to achieve something remarkable which exceeds their current expectations in their lives. It is definitely just a matter of strong willingness and exposure whether we get to obtain that life long dream.
