I remember vividly when the pain first hit me.It was a Sunday. I was just sitting on the floor with my legs folded chatting with a dear friend. It was such an excruciating pain. I had to sit on the couch then to lean my back but the pain remains. The next couple of days were just unbearable and ridiculous. Simple tasks such as squatting and walking briskly became a challenge.I couldn't even sit on a stool or stand for a long period of time. I decided to leave it in hope my condition will improve but it didn't.
Second week- For your information, I enjoy swimming (great way to unwind yourself) very much.I usually swim at least thrice a week at a nearby swimming pool alone. It was rather depressing and demotivating that your hobby became a torture. I was supposed to have a swimming competition that week- MSSS. It's my senior year of high school, in other words, my last swimming competition. The competition is indeed very difficult with many strong competitors. I wouldn't even stand a chance. I was in a deep dilemma, whether to carry on or pull out. But you see, I'm not the type who simply walks away without even trying but eventually, I did. I guessed it was for the best as my body doesn't permits. I've no idea whether I did the right thing or not, for letting such an opportunity, last opportunity to be exact to slip away. I knew I had to stop or at least to take a break from it but I was so stubborn as I have so many upcoming competitions at that point of time. So, I continued exercising as usual despite the pain.
Third week- I was so desperate for help. That weekend, my second brother took me for an acupuncture session. I'm going to be truthful, I was super excited to finally know what's wrong with my back. The lady said it's most probably a muscle sprain and follow-up treatments are required to treat it. She gave me a pack of herbal back patches. I was pretty certain it wasn't my muscles as muscles are placed at the sides and the pain comes from the spine area. In my opinion, that session didn't help at all so I never return for follow-up treatments.
Forth week- I decided to consult an orthopedist before it worsens. Thankfully, I have my elder sister to accompany me to the hospital. The orthopedist seem a little confused but believed that the pain originated from one of my vertebrae of my lumbar region. He said it's rather common in highly active individuals. He recommended simple exercises to improve my lower backaches. He gave me two weeks to monitor my condition. He suggested me to go for a MRI if the pain persists after two weeks but I never did as MRI is highly costly.
Till to date, my condition has improved tremendously but the pain fluctuates. It's been 9 weeks and I'm still clueless on my lower back pain & wish to find out one day.
